Welcome to the cozy world of amylouknits!

Hello and welcome. I am Amylou, the designer and maker at amylouknits. I grew up on the east coast of Massachusetts and have made my home in Plaistow, New Hampshire. I am a mom, a knitter, a photographer, a musician - I play the baritone ukulele and the tenor guitar, a VW Beetle owner, and love going on motorcycle adventures on our Harley with my partner, Glenn.

My mom was a wonderful knitter and all five of us children always had hand knit beanies, mittens and sweaters. I still have sweaters she had knit for me as an adult and several of her afghans. When my son was born in 1988 I learned to knit and made him several baby blankets just using the “knit” stitch….fast forward to a few years ago, I took up knitting again and started knitting ribbed scarves for my friends. I decided to learn how to knit in the round and make beanies. I was so intrigued by all the variations of stitches and patterns, that I felt like all I could think about was knitting. This is what got me through our very cold winter of 2018/2019. And so, amylouknits was born!

I am in my element with needles in my hands and a ball of yarn attached. I have a full time job at a local college, and knitting calms me after a busy day. I love designing new patterns for my beanies, headbands and cowls. And nothing makes me happier to custom knit an accessory for YOU, my friend and customer. All the products are hand-knit by myself and I take personal pride in making it perfectly warm and cozy.
